2015 National Poomsae Team Selection Update

With the announced cancellation of the 2015 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships by the World Taekwondo Federation, there have been many questions regarding the selection process for the 2015 National Poomsae Team. The National Poomsae Team coaches would like to let you know that USA Taekwondo is still planning the 2015 US Poomsae Team selection as detailed here:

The plan as stated in the selection procedures is for the National Poomsae Team Trials to be held in August 2015. A date and location will be announced USA Taekwondo once they have been confirmed.

The US National Poomsae Team coaching staff will endeavor to make sure that the US National Poomsae Team will have outstanding opportunities this year whether it be at the World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships or another event, for example, the Pan American Taekwondo Poomsae Championships.

Our advice is for athletes to continue training in preparation for the National Championships  and the National Poomsae Team Trials. The coaching staff sees the process of the Team Trials as a valuable addition to our US athletes’ development.  The format of performing all poomsae in front of high quality judges will be a unique opportunity for the athletes to have more mat time and practice for their presentation skills on a very high level.
If you have questions regarding the status of the national poomsae team trials, you may contact USA Taekwondo Director of Events Ms. Jeanna Mendoza or High Performance Director Mr. Patrick Wentland.
Yours,
US National Poomsae Team Coaching Staff

2015 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships Update

As many of you have read, the World Taekwondo Federation announced that there will be no World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships, that the next one will be in 2016, and that subsequent championships will be held every two years.
This announcement is very new – the coaching staff is working with USA Taekwondo staff on a plan for the 2015 National Poomsae Team and will endeavor to continue the outstanding momentum initiated in 2014 at World Championships and continued through the beginning of this year with the seminars. We will keep you informed, but for now this development is very new and we will be observing how things settle out during the coming days. Check back often on this page and the USA Taekwondo page.

USA Taekwondo State Championships Update

Cadet sparring (black belts) CANNOT compete in multiple state championships. Any athlete caught doing so risks being disqualified from the National Championships.”
