US National Poomsae Team Head Coach

Coach Dan Chuang was appointed head coach of the US National Poomsae team in December 2014. He has served as coach of the 2013 and 2014 US World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships team, and is a 5-time coach of the US National Collegiate Taekwondo Team from 2009-2014, including the World University Games and World University Taekwondo Championships.  Coach Chuang has served as Secretary General and Vice President of the US National Collegiate Taekwondo Association. He is head coach of t.Bos competition team, MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) Sport Taekwondo and C.W. Taekwondo at Boston. Coach Chuang is a WTF-certified International Poomsae Referee and has developed multiple national team and collegiate national team members in both poomsae and sparring. He was an athlete on the 2011 US National Poomsae Team at the World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships in Vladivostok, Russia (2nd Senior Individual). Coach Chuang holds bachelors and masters degrees in engineering from Cornell University.

Turgeon

Coach David Turgeon is a 7th degree black belt who holds over 39 years of studying and teaching the art and science of Taekwondo. He is a 5-time US National Poomsae team member and 3-time US Poomsae Team Captain. He is a 2-time USA Taekwondo All-American athlete and holds a WTF International Referee Certification in both sparring and poomsae. Coach Turgeon is also a PATU Poomsae Referee Committee member and serves as an International Kukkiwon Instructor and member of the Kukkiwon Advisory Board.

Coach Barbara Brand has 36 years of Taekwondo experience and holds a 7th Dan. Brand is a 3 time World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships Medalist and a 5 time US National Poomsae Team Member. She was a 4-time 2nd Female Team and 2-time 2nd Master Individual team member, and also served as captain of the 2011 US National Poomsae Team. Coach Brand was a coach of the 2012 and 2014 US World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships teams. She has coached many World Taekwondo Championship and national medalists. Coach Brand has been a USAT Athlete Advisory Council Representative since 2013, and is the master instructor of the Sacramento Taekwondo Club. Coach Brand holds an MA in Education, Curriculum and Instruction: Professional Development Emphasis, and a California Professional Teaching Credential and BA in English.

Coach Huy Nguyen has developed 24 US National Poomsae Team members and 7 US National Collegiate team members (22 world medalists). He served as a coach of the 2013 and 2014 US National Poomsae team, and as coach of the 2012 US National Collegiate Poomsae Team. Coach Huy was a National Poomsae Team member in 2011, 2013 and 2014. Most recently, he earned a gold medal in the 1st Male Team division at the 2014 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships. Coach Huy also serves as head coach of Team-M Taekwondo and as poomsae coach of Stanford Taekwondo.

Tara Zielinski was named a manager of the US National Poomsae Team in 2014 and she served as on-site manager for the World Poomsae Championships both in 2014 (Aguascalientes, Mexico) and 2011 (Vladivostok, Russia).  Tara was a US National Team Member from 2008 to 2010 in the 2nd Female Team division, and earned a bronze medal in 2008 with that team.
